IHL-Serie A: the challenges for the Scudetto will be held in February

Collalbo, January 10, 2022 - The IHL-Series A Scudetto semifinals were to be held this week with a best-of-three game format. Because, as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, some of the four participating clubs are facing increased infections, the Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG) and the LIHG Hockey League determined on Monday that the IHL-Series A finals will be held February 8-12 with a new format.

As a result, the semifinal games scheduled for this week have been cancelled and the 88th champion of Italy will be decided in a month's time in a Round Robin. This means that Asiago, Rittner Buam, HC Gherdëina and Cortina will face each other once. Whoever will have collected the most points in the three games will be proclaimed champion. The winner of the regular season (Asiago) and the second classified team (Rittner Buam) will play at home two games out of three. On Tuesday, February 8, the Rittner Buam will meet HC Gherdëina at the Ritten Arena. Two days later, Cortina will play in Collalbo, while on Saturday, February 12, Santeri Heiskanen's team will play away from home against Asiago. The starting times of the single games will be decided later.

"The objective - explain FISG president Andrea Gios, field hockey advisor Tommaso Teofoli and LIHG president Marcello Cobelli - is first of all to protect the health of the athletes, technicians and staff as much as possible, but also to guarantee the most regular and correct development of the decisive phase for the assignment of the scudetto."
